As season two of Caribbean’s Next Top Model kicks off, season one winner, Caymanian beauty Traveen “Nik” Stewart reveals winning did nothing to help her career. According to Cayman27 News, Stewart states that “after not receiving all of her promised winnings, she found fulfilling her dream of landing a career in the United States came from her own drive to succeed.”
Stewart also claims that she lost two years off her modelling career waiting for the show to air and upholding her commitments to the show’s producers.
“I was not able to use the title of winning Caribbean’s Next Top Model in the US, as the show never aired there; and people in the US fashion industry had never even heard of the show,” she told Cayman27.
Stewart said she had to restart her career and rebrand herself, changing her name to ’Nik’ Stewart in an effort to distance herself from the TV show.
“The only advantage of the show was that it allowed me to become well-known to the Caribbean and that’s basically it. It did not propel my career; it did not live up to its promises of prizes; it did not aid my international aspirations of being signed to a US modelling agency,” she said.
The CTNM franchise is held by former Miss Universe winner Wendy Fitwilliam and her sister Dionyse.
Season Two was filmed in Barbados and launched in partnership with Flow TV.
