12th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Festival - July 14, 2012

The South Jersey Caribbean Cultural and Development Organization (SJCCDO), a 501c3 non-profit based in Camden, NJ presents the 12th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Festival at Wiggins Park on the Camden, NJ Waterfront on Saturday July 14, 2012 from 12pm to 8pm.

The 12th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Festival is a FREE family cultural event that showcases Caribbean art, music, food, and dance. The South Jersey Caribbean Festival features Steel Pan, Reggae, Latin and Soca Music. The diversity of the Caribbean will be represented by performers from countries including Jamaica, Dominica, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent and Grenadines, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago. The traditional Latin dance performances by the Muervete Dance group of Philadelphia, PA will excite, energize and entertain the crowd says Edward Stein of Maple Shade, NJ.

In 2012, South Jersey Caribbean Festival will honor Michael Clarke and the Khan Family. Michael Clark, a native of Jamaica is owner of All Nations Restaurant in Camden. He has served Camden city residents for many years. The Khan Family are decedents of Dr. Mustapha Khan Sr., a prominent doctor from Trinidad and Tobago that practiced medicine in Camden for 50 years. The Khan Family members individually and as a whole make a difference in lives of Camden County residents on a daily basis through their community service and outreach programs.

Also, there will be a special presentation in honor of the two Caribbean countries celebrating their 50th Anniversary of Independence: Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

The children activities area will be sponsored by the Home Depot. The Home Depot of Cherry Hill will host a FREE Kids Workshop where children will learn hands on, will be taught do it yourself skills, tool safety and will finish with a craft to take home. Time for Fun Jumpers will sponsor a moon bounce from 12 to 3pm.

Healthcare Screenings will be sponsored by Horizon NJ Car- A-Van. There will be free giveaways and lots of activities. Participants are encouraged to come out early so they don’t miss anything.

The SJCCDO relies solely on donations and sponsors to present this FREE cultural experience to the community. Some of our sponsors include Rutgers University – Camden, FedEx Office, Comcast, Camden County Cultural & Heritage Commission, Camden County Parks Department, and Champ Shipping,
