Mykal Rose

This weekend, Grammy-award winning singer and musician Mykal Rose is coming to dinner in Atlanta. Rose will be performing on Saturday, December 4 at Kybele Bistro in Marietta. The highly anticipated intimate performance will give reggae music enthusiasts a much needed treat!!! Simply put, there is not enough live reggae music in Atlanta and its pretty unheard of in Marietta, GA! Hilawe & 3-2-1 Productions the brains behind this movement saw a void in the market and are seeking to fill this gap. Hopefully, bringing in a huge international artist such as Mykal Rose is a step in the right direction.

For over 25 successful years, Mykal Rose has been recording and performing his own unique style of reggae worldwide. Born in 1957 in the Water House district of Kingston, Rose had been honing his skills during the Jamaican hotel circuit and already had several hit singles before being approached by an early incarnation of the band Black Uhuru. At the time he hung out with friends such as Dennis Brown, Big Youth, Sly and Robbie, the Wailers and the recently deceased Gregory Isaacs, among others who inspired him.

Now, as the front man during the recording sessions and live shows, Rose rocketed Black Uhuru to the top of international success. They won their first-ever Grammy award for reggae in 1985 for the album Anthem, helping to solidify the roots movement worldwide. They became the best known reggae act since Bob Marley.

Prior to pursuing his solo career, Rose composed some of the bands most popular material including; Shine Eye Gal, Guess whos coming to dinner, and General Penitentiary. In 1989, Rose was signed to RCA and released the album Proud in Europe and Japan. He followed that with a new batch of singles produced by the famous duo Sly and Robbie, which were eventually released on vinyl as Sly and Robbie presents: Mykal Rose The Jam Sessions in 1995. That same year, he made his American debut as a solo artist with the album Michael Rose on heartbeat records. The single Short Temper: reached #2 on the Gavin reggae chart. From 1995-2004, heartbeat records released a total of nine albums, which included Last Chance hitting #1 on the UK reggae charts.

Mykal as he now spells his name, the Ethiopian Way, saw the release of the #1 single Shoot Out in 2007. He currently has a new single Stronger burning up the Jamaican and international Reggae charts. Hilawe & 3-2-1 productions is proud to present to Atlanta, on Saturday Dec. 4 2010 again, this true Reggae legend through Kybele Bistro located at 105 N Park Sq Marietta, Georgia 30060 www.kybelebistro.com
