Fly Rasta

The album features the background vocals of Erica Newell plus Sharon and Cedella Marley making the album almost a virtual Melody Makers reunion!   The legendary DJ U-Roy also makes a cameo on “Fly Rasta” paying homage to the good ol’ days of dancehall reggae!

This Grammy is Ziggy’s seventh Grammy Award.  He has won four for solo albums and three with  Ziggy Marley and The Melody Makers.

The other Best Reggae Album Grammy nominees up against Ziggy were:

“Back on the Controls,” Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry;

“Full Frequency,” Sean Paul;

“Out of Many, One Music,” Shaggy;

“The Reggae Power,” Sly & Robbie; Spicy Chocolate;

“Amid the Noise and the Haste,” SOJA

The Marley Grammy track record is quite impressive.  The Marley dynasty now has 13 Grammy Awards under the family belt (Stephen Marley and Damian “Junior Gong” Marley both have three each).

RCS Editor’s Note:  Ziggy Marley’s Win comes only two days following the 70th Birthday Anniversary of his father the legendary reggae icon Bob Marley!
