Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina and Nick Gordon, have officially announced their engagement. After allegations that Gordon is her brother, she has told the world that he was never adopted by her mother. The pair grew up together after the late Grammy-award winning singer Whitney Houston, took Gordon in when he was 12 years old. The engagement was announced last October on her reality TV show, The Houstons: On Our Own, the 20 year old has received a lot of hate messages on Facebook.
They grew closer after Houston’s death
Kristina and Gordon grew closer after Houston’s death in 2012. The premiere episode of reality show The Houstons: On Our Own, showed the 20 year old flashing her mother’s ring as an engagement ring to Gordon.
The couple have had an on-off relationship, when Kristina wrote a series of cryptic tweets November, last year, and Gordon tweeted to the world that they had broken up.
“@REALbkBrown and I are not engaged or dating. Just close like we have always been,” The same day Kristina tweeted that she was going to spend time with Gordon. “Spending time together, Sunday night football & Playing with our @nickgordon new 3DS’s! Soooooo… Goodbye !!(:(:(“
Despite Whitney Houston describing Gordon as her ‘son’ before she died in February last year, Kristina insists that her mother never adopted Gordon and has defended her relationship in a long Facebook post clearing up any confusion and speculation of incest. She also explains how her mother approved of their relationship before she died:
“Let me clear up something, we aren’t even real brother and sister nor is he my adoptive brother. My mom never adopted him. In fact, mommy was the one who even said that she knew that we were going to start dating,” adding, “People need to seriously stop judging my relationship. Pretty sure it’s my own decision who I want to be with.”
History of addiction
Houston, who died at only 48 years old, was constantly in the limelight but not always for her talent. Although famously known for ber her strong vocals in hit songs such as I Will Always Love You, Houston was also known for her addictions to crack cocaine, marijuana and alcohol. Houston was admitted to numerous drug and alcohol rehab recovery centers in New York, and elsewhere throughout her career. The late singer opened up in an interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show, telling the world about her addiction problems. She claimed they were at their worst after the hit 1992 film The Bodyguard. It was here she played diva singer and performer, Rachel Marron, alongside Kevin Costner.
Houston was also known for her abusive relationship with Kristina’s father, Bobby Brown. The couple divorced in April 2007 after 14 years of marriage. Houston was granted sole custody of their only child.

Kristina has had a somewhat troubled upbringing, being in the center of fame from a young age. Thrust into reality show, Being Bobby Brown, at only 12 years old, Kristina is used to being in the public eye.
Bobby Brown has been in and out of trouble with the law, arrested for a second DUI charge only recently. Kristina seems to be heading in the same direction, showing up in the media more and more since Houston’s death.
Kristina’s family, including her grandmother Cissy Houston, filed a petition to change the inheritance payments left to Kristina after the death of Houston. The court settled the case and the teenager was settled to received $20 million. 10% will be paid when she turns 21 and 20% when she is 25 years old. The remainder for the inheritance will be given when she is 30 years old.
Reality show, The Houstons: On Our Own began filming in May last year, three months after her mother’s death. Featuring Whitney’s brother, Gary Houston, her manager, best friend and Gary’s wife, Pat Houston, Gary’s daughter, Rayah Houston and Whitney’s mother, Rayah Houston, the show was meant to show the aftermath of Houston’s death. However, the reality show presented a very troubled teenager as Kristina is constantly drinking and was said to have a drinking problem. Pat Houston, Kristina’s care-taker since her mother’s death, said on The View: “Cameras have been following her [Kristina] since she was born. It’s not exploitation of any kind.” Kristina has denied the allegations of alcohol and drug addiction.
Let’s hope that Kristina’s drinking days are over and the wedding plans to Gordon will get her on the straight and narrow.
