Jamaica’s highly-touted musician Chronixx drops his brand new video “Likes” from his forthcoming debut album Chronology (out next week July 7).  The self-produced single has been burning up dancehall’s across the world, since its release in March.

Directed by Joachim Maquet, the video was filmed in London during the UK leg of his well-received Chronology Tour, also featuring scenes from his sold-out Brixton Academy show.

VICE/NOISEY premieres the visual and chats with the artist, who gives “the distinct feeling of being in the presence of a legend.” See excerpt below.

Fans of Jimmy Fallon’s late night show caught a sample of “Likes” when Chronixx performed in February. He also performed the song during his UK TV debut on the respected Later with Jools Holland season 8 finale alongside The xx, Maren Morris, Haim, Trombone Shorty and Royal Blood.

Chronixx is currently in the U.S. gearing up for the release of Chronology. This past Monday (June 26) at PlayStation Theater in NYC, the singer was invited to perform two songs off the album (“Smile Jamaica” and “Skankin Sweet”) backed by SNL’s house band at the MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert. The concert honored U2’s bassist Adam Clayton. U2, Jack Garratt, Macy Gray, Michael Franti and The Lumineers also took the stage that evening.

In a heartfelt speech from U2 honoree Clayton discussing his addiction and recovery, he thanked Island Records Founder Chris Blackwell for introducing Chronixx’s music to him. “Thank you, Chris. He celebrated his 80th birthday last week. Coolest man. Still in the music business. I’ve known this man a long time and apart from U2 and Paul McGuinness he’s my longest relationship in the music business and he turned me onto Chronixx who played here tonight, so thank you Chris” states RollingStone.com.

Next week (Jul 5-9), Chronixx has a handful of shows along the U.S. East Coast, including a free NYC show for BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn! at Prospect Park on Jul 8. Then, he heads to Japan’s Fuji Rock and an extensive European tour. In the fall, he returns stateside to tour with Ms. Lauryn Hill & Nas.
