The Jamaican Star Carries a Timely and Important Message About the Indomitable Human Spirit

Assassin a.k.a. Agent Sasco’s latest single “Stronger” is visualized through a story of struggle and progress. Driven by the spirit of perseverance, Sasco acts as an agent of positive change on “Stronger.” According to The FADER, the video offers inspiration for hard times” and “feels right on time.”

Sasco tapped into his passion project of farming as the starting point for “Stronger.” Set in Jamaica, the Ras Kassa directed visual tells the story of independent banana farmer, who is faced with social and economic struggles in an effort to provide for his family. The video’s opening credits reveal the harsh reality that only five corporations control 80% of banana sales worldwide and such a small fraction is given to the farmer.

“Stronger,” which was recorded at Bob Marley’s legendary Tuff Gong Studios and backed by the five-piece band Raging Fyah, is off Assassin’s latest album Theory Of Reggaetiviity (Feb 19 / Sound Age).   That being said, I recently caught up with Assassin and he told me that he is currently building a home studio.  This will allow him to develop new artists and allow more time at home.

I am in the midst of constructing a studio at my home so I’ll be working a lot more efficiently.  To have a space like that where I can really immerse myself in the creative process and experiment as well… I’m really looking forward to that.  Hopefully, by the end of the summer I’ll have that up and running.  Yea, its going to be a whole new universe and so many different possibilities.

The Jamaican lyricist has been slaying the dancehall scene for over a decade, hence the reason for his notorious moniker. More recently, he has landed features on some of hip hop’s biggest records from Kanye West to Kendrick Lamar. On Theory Of Reggaetivity, he delves in more conscious reggae delivering his most honest record that parallels his maturation.

RCS SIDEBAR:  During my interview with Assassin, I asked him about his feature on Kendrick Lamar’s “Blacker the Berry” being played at the GRAMMYs and he said that he didn’t even know that it was going to be performed and he didn’t even catch it live!
