Last night VH1 premiered its latest edition of VH1 Divas. Paula Abdul hosted the show which starred divas Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus (a diva at 16??), Adele, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks (sounds more like an American Idol reunion!).
Ok, here’s are my choices for good, bad and the ugly diva moments. The greatest moment of the night for me was Jennifer Hudson performing “All in Love is Fair” with the divo himself Stevie Wonder. Jennifer Hudson was awesome but divo Stevie was not to be outdone and gave a riveting performance (below). My other divalicious moment was Jordin Sparks and Martina McBride performing “A Broken Wing”. Jordin’s vocal range is impressive and her stage presence has improved tremendously. My diva rocker moment of the night goes to Kelly Clarkson and Melissa Etheridge performing “Bring Me Some Water”. Kelly Clarkson totally deserves her “Diva” title and Melissa’s energy is unmatched for a diva of any age!
That’ s the good now my bad was Paula Abdul’s opening number. Now, I would say that she did an ok job as the host of the show but Paula as a singer on a show called “Divas”? Not! I think she’s a good lip syncher and that’s about it. Although I must give her props for a great impression of her Idol replacement, Ellen Denegeres.
Ugly moment was Adele and India Arie singing “Video”. It was odd for Adele to sing a duet with the lyrics “I will always be India Arie”. The song was not well suited to Adele’s voice or her style of singing either.
Here are some clips of the show.
