Jamaican international dancehall artist J Capri was bid farewell on Monday at an emotional funeral service at the Mona chapel of the University of the West Indies.

Scores of dancehall celebrities turned out to pay their final respects to the late singer, real name Jordan Joel Phillips, who they all agreed had had a bright future ahead.

Among those performing musical tributes were Alaine, Cherine Anderson, Christopher Martin and Romain Virgo.

J Capri’s death came as a major shock to the Jamaican music fraternity, as just days before, doctors had reported the artiste had been showing signs of improvement after
a successful blood drive and surgery.

J Capri died on December 4 in hospital after battling for her life for two weeks following a deadly car crash.

Her wake also saw a huge turnout last Saturday night at Little Copa, Bull Bay, St Andrew, in Jamaica.

J Capri has been hailed as one of the most promising new acts in dancehall, and has been compared to dancehall icon Patra, who saw huge commercial success
in the 1990s.

J Capri rose to stardom in 2013, going on to collaborate with the likes of Vybz Kartel, Konshens, Charly Black, and more. (DB)
