Grammy-winning reggae band Steel Pulse has released Put Your Hoodies On [4 Trayvon], a song dedicated to Trayvon Martin.
Composed by lead singer David “Dread” Hinds, the song was released during the trial of George Zimmerman and is available as a free download at http://steelpulse.com/Trayvon
“The song is a plea for justice,” says Hinds. “Steel Pulse has been campaigning and watching this case since February 26th 2012. The fact is that an innocent teenager is dead, shot by a man who was playing vigilante – pursuing the teenager around the neighborhood despite being advised against it by the authorities. This could well end up as the day justice was killed once again in a Jim Crow society.”
“We had sensed the result well before it was announced, especially when the juror was not clear about the manslaughter regulations. That showed us that they too considered that the assailant should have been held accountable for his action. My hunch is they realized that manslaughter still would have had him having a considerable amount of years behind bars. So not to have him serve such a lengthy time, they chose to have him walk free. One thing for sure, the dogs that Michael Vick was responsible for killing, received more justice. But despite the outcome of the trial, the truth remains the truth, and the ghost of justice will haunt this town of Sanford, Florida – forever.”
