Last weekend, New York Soca artist Lyrikal hosted his first annual walk for breast cancer awareness. In partnership with Making Strides against Breast Cancer, Lyrikal launched a team page and used his social media to promote the walk and urge fan participation. Saying “At some point cancer has affected us all in some way. Just like you have supported me and my efforts on my musical journey I know we can come together as 1 and support this cause.”

The Brooklyn-based singer’s goal was to raise US $3,000 for the charity and participants were asked to donate and or join his Team Cloud 9 at the Making Strides charity walk in Brooklyn . Held this past Sunday Oct 18th, the walk began assembling at 7am near Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and were treated to breakfast before starting. Though exact numbers have not been given, hundreds of participants came out in pink “Team Cloud 9” t-shirts with matching gloves and headbands in support. Surpassing the goal, more than $3500 was raised with proceeds going to Brooklyn’s local chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides against Breast Cancer Campaign.

Team Cloud 9 participants flooded social media with pride and thanks to Lyrikal for his efforts, and as a thank you to the participants, Lyrikal treated them to a stage performance where they gleefully joined him in singing many of his hit tunes word for word. Deeming the event a success, Lyrikal has already confirmed the walk will take place again next year.

Lryikal had a very successful 2015 season with his hits ‘Cloud 9’ and ‘Loner’ being one two of the biggest tunes to last the entire season. He recently released his first offering for the 2016 season, ‘Dip & Roll’ which received rave reviews during Miami’s Carnival earlier this month.
