The Legends Celebration is a National Black Arts Festival (NBAF) Signature event that pays tribute to the lives of artists, performers, historians, critics and politicians who have made important and enduring contributions in their field and to our culture.
This year’s Legends Celebration was even more special as the NBAF celebrates 25 years. As if that wasn’t enough, this year the NBAF honored “reggae ambassadors” Third World for their 40 years of great music and contributions to the cultural fabric of the African Diaspora.
Third World, founding member, Stephen ‘Cat’ Coore, was on hand to accept the award on behalf of the band. Cat was thoroughly humbled by the honor:
I want to thank the members of the NBAF for embracing us, for embracing our music and embracing Caribbean music because we are all one people.

Cat Coore treated those in attendance to a special cello acoustic performance. I knew that he played cello but I never had the opportunity to witness his cello playing prowess live. It was quite a moment for reggae music and for Third World! It was also a special treat to sit down for a quickie interview with this living legend.
