Hakan Akkaya presented us with his Fall/Winter 2017 collection entitled “Freedom” at New York Fashion Week.  The designer is questioning whether people can or cannot live and think freely as they want regardless of their race, religion, language or sex.  The bold, striking pieces that accentuated zippers, buckles and straps throughout the collection read “Rebel”.  The collection embodied resistance and the political tension that is surrounding us now.

Edgy fashions in classic black and elements of white silhouettes made up this 108 piece ensemble consisting of men’s and women’s apparel.  The types of looks varied from matrix styled jackets to sheer tops, leather, puffer jackets, along with metallic fabrications and metal detailed touches.  It was a perfect combination of soft and hard brought together harmoniously.

While taking in each look in the collection, Rihanna came to mind, I could definitely see her rocking some of his designs, especially the ruffle metallic gown which was on my top 3 looks from the show. The Turkish designer definitely spoke volumes with the message in his eclectic montage of clothing.  It was something different and absolutely gave the meaning to statement pieces.
