Atlanta Dekalb Carnival took place on Saturday, May 26 for the first time in Lithonia at the newly created Atlanta Sports City at Stonecrest Mall. The Dekalb Carnival had a huge crowd and masqueraders seem to have had a wonderful time out on the road.
I have to admit when I arrived to the Atlanta DeKalb Carnival there were lots of people (that’s a good thing!) and some disorganization (expected when an event of this magnitude relocates to a new venue). As a result, unfortunately I did not enter the festival village.
Nonetheless, I made the decision to turn my lemons into sweet lemonade! I spent my time outside the festival village and ran into many friends and witnessed the mas bads breaking out into spontaneous renditions of Shal Marshal’s popular soca song “Splinters”. This is where I took these beautiful photos. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed capturing them!
Although I didn’t get to witness the masqueraders crossing the stage inside the village, I still had a great time.
