Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader Andrew Holness is to be sworn in as prime minister on Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock, after the Electoral Office of Jamaica wrote to Governor General Sir Patrick Allen advising that the final count of ballots in Thursday’s general election had been completed and that the JLP gained 32 seats to the People’s National Party’s 31 seats in the 63-seat House of Representatives.

There is a magisterial recount of the ballots cast in St Mary South Eastern constituency, which the PNP’s Dr Winston Green won by nine votes over the JLP’s Dr Norman Dunn in a recount after being initially declared for the JLP.

Should the seat change hands again, it will augment the JLP’s narrow majority and not affect the overall result.

This is the second time that Holness will be sworn-in as prime minister, having briefly served in that office from October 23, 2011 to January 5, 2012, following the resignation of his predecessor Bruce Golding.
