The 8th Annual BronzeLens Film Festival takes place in Atlanta August 23-August 27.  The festival has become a staple film festival for Atlanta and features great panels in addition to the film screenings. This film festival always offers a wide array of options from the “bronze lens” including selections from the Caribbean diaspora. For tickets and more information about the BronzeLens Film Festival visit bronzelens.com

This year BronzeLens will be screening two selections from the Caribbean: Machel Montano: Making of a Soca King and Barrow Freedom Riders.

With a lifelong mission to put soca music on the international map, Trinidad and Tobago’s Machel Montano has pioneered the evolution of the genre throughout his 34-year career. The film utilizes never before seen vintage footage along with insight from band members, peers, and family to tell the phenomenal story of the “Michael Jackson of the Caribbean”, while giving viewers a backstage pass to his 15 high-energy, non-stop, live performances during the last 5 days before Carnival Monday 2015 in Trinidad.

Machel Montano: Making of a Soca King  will screen on Saturday August 26 at 5:00pm – 6:15pm.  For tickets and more information visit:  bronzelens.com.  Barrow Freedom Riders will also screen on Saturday August 26 from 3:20pm – 4:45pm.  Let’s show support for these films about our rich culture and history!

The film is directed by Bart Phillips, a trailblazer in his media vision, and a recipient of 2 MTV Video Music Awards, an Emmy, and a NAIMIC Award for his work on The Journey with Akon featured on the African Channel. Complimenting his equally unquestionable reputation, these significant milestones rank highly his work for inaugural productions.
