UPDATE LAURYN HILL ADDED! – In a rare TV appearance, Ms. Lauryn Hill will take the Late Night stage on Thursday, May 12 to perform two of Marleys classic songs.

May 11, 1981 marks 30 years since reggae legend Bob Marley died from brain cancer. In honor and commemoration of Bob Marley Late Night With Jimmy Fallon will host a number of special guest appearances each night next week. Ziggy Marley, Bob’s eldest son will be a guest for the first time on the late night show.

I’m just trying to figure out why more Marleys aren’t scheduled to appear? What happened to Damian, Ky-mani, Rita, Julian, Stephen, ….I could go on. I just think it would have been nice to have a different Marley performing on each night. None the less, reespeck to NBC and Jimmy Fallon for recognizing Bob Marley and his contribution to music.

Also scheduled to appear are rock artist Chris Cornell, Grammy and Oscar award winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson (cannot wait to hear Jennifer’s interpretation of a Bob Marley classic!), rock singer Jakob Dylan and Lenny Kravitz (yum yum, I want some!). Each night, the special guest will perform a classic Marley song. Fallon’s house band ‘The Roots’ will also be present to pay tribute to the singer.

“Big up Jimmy Fallon for honoring the memory of my father,” said Ziggy Marley in a press release sent to the media. “Much respect.” Ziggy will talk about his father in addition to performing. Ziggy Marley’s next album, Wild and Free, is due out June 14.

In more Marley news, the anticipated documentary on the late reggae star’s life, by Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald, is expected for release late this year. Universal Music Enterprise will also be promoting its recent release of Marley’s final concert held at the Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania., on September 23, 1980.
