After months of keeping silent on her growing baby bump, Grammy-nominated R&B singer Keyshia Cole issued a statement yesterday confirming her pregnancy and recent engagement to Cleveland Cavaliers basketball player Daniel Gibson. This past Thursday, Keyshia Cole was put on front street by her mother Frankie Lyons during the Ryan Cameron show on Atlanta radio station V-103. Frankie claimed that Keyshia was already married and did so to avoid having a child being born out of wedlock. What’s so wrong with that Frankie?? The next day Keyshia issued the following statement:
“To all my friends and fans, it’s time that I clear the air,” Cole explained. “It’s not a secret that I haven’t been in contact with my mother Frankie, and my sisters Neffe and Elite and I never wanted to air out our differences to the public. While I won’t go into detail here I find it necessary to let you guys know I decided to stop communication with them because I was at a point in my life where I needed serenity and peace to move forward. Please know I love my family very much but it was time to let it go. You guys are a witness to a lot of what was happening from watching on air and online. Now that I am becoming a mom my passion for having a loving and peaceful home for my child is my #1 priority.
Keyshia also let her fans know that only she, her fiance, her publicist and her BFF R&B singer Monica could speak the truth about anything regarding her life. “My girl Monica never lies.”
I’m glad Keyshia issued a statement. I’ve run into Frankie and Neffie many times sans Keyshia. Of course, everyone kind of knew that Keyshia had separated herself but an official statement keeps everything copastetic. While I understand Keyshia’s need to separate herself from Frankie at this time (cause her mother is truly a handful and her alcoholism doesn’t help!), I truly hope that at some point they will resolve their issues. You only get one mother Keyshia! Maybe the birth of Keyshia’s first child will bring the family together in a “loving and peaceful home”
