June is Caribbean American Heritage Month!

In its continuing efforts to promote scholarship and innovative discourse, ICS has launched its Emerging Scholars Program, a virtual portal for graduate research about the Caribbean, the Diaspora and its people. The Emerging Scholars Program is aimed at creating a network of up and coming scholars whose work will make an impact on the Caribbean Diaspora and region. More importantly, it provides a space for young scholars to share and promote their research.

The program has two components:

Caribbean Futures Dissertation Project: provides a platform for emerging scholars to share their research and also to leverage ICS’ resources to obtain data for research.

Emerging Scholars Webinar Series: Participating scholars are given the opportunity to discuss their research (in progress or recently completed) and policy or economic and social implications through a webinar series.

To qualify as an ICS Emerging Scholar, interested participants should be:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate (Masters, professional -JD, MBA, MD, or doctoral) program or recently graduated (1-3 years from graduation date) from such a program.
  • Under the age of 35
  • Research interests must be related to the Caribbean Diaspora (not limited to the Diaspora in the United States) and the Caribbean region.

If you are interested in the Emerging Scholars Programs, please send an email with the  ‘Emerging Scholars Program’ as the subject to icsdcorg@gmail.com or to Karelle Samuda, Program Coordinator at Karelle.samuda@gmail.com.
