The Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) founded by Dr. Claire Nelson will present eight outstanding individuals with CARAH Awards on Friday, November 14th.  The Caribbean American Heritage Awards (CARAH) recognizes individuals of Caribbean heritage who have made extraordinary contributions and accomplishments in their field of expertise.

The 21st Annual Caribbean American Heritage Awards (CARAH) Gala will pay homage to an eclectic collection of individuals from all over the Caribbean Diaspora who have excelled as scientists, musicians, entertainment moguls, and community advocates.

This year’s honorees are:

Gowton Achaibar – global business leader and president of Ericsson India (Guyanese heritage)

Roger Bobb – award winning TV producer and writer (Guyanese heritage)

Dr. Robert France – renowned scientist and engineer (Vincentian heritage)

Jeffrey Haynes – award winning percussionist (Barbadian heritage)

Carol Maraj – advocate against domestic violence (Trinidadian heritage)

Dr. Rudy Moise – philanthropist and businessman (Haitian heritage)

Dr. Mortimer Neufville – outstanding educator and administrator (Jamaican heritage)

Major General Vincent Stewart – exemplary military officer and administrator (Jamaican heritage)

The CARAH Awards raise the profile of Caribbean Americans who have been successful in their fields. It was created by ICS as a forum for highlighting Caribbean Americans’ contributions to the music, advocacy, business and entertainment industries and to the United States.  Click here for more information on this year’s honorees.
