Haitians around the world celebrate Haitian Flag day each year on May 18. Haitian Flag Day celebrates the country’s independence from France and making the first Black nation to gain their independence! The middle white stripe of the French flag was removed and the blue and red stripes were stitched together to form Haiti’s flag.
Flag Day has become even more significant following the January 2010 earthquake which left 300,000 people dead and devastated the country. L’ujnion Fait la Force, Haiti’s motto means there is strength in unity and this means Haiti will rise again!
