Margaret Kargbo

On Saturday, June 6, 2015, the Atlanta community, (comprised of artists, business professionals, community leaders, politicians, friends and family), will come together to attend a special program in tribute to Margaret Kargbo, entitled: The Love of Margaret, a Celebration of Life, held at The Aviation Community Cultural Center (ACCC) from 11am – 2pm. With recent funeral services held in Kargbo’s hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, her Atlanta extended family has organized a special program where the public can celebrate Kargbo’s life, and witness her philanthropic work that she has completed for over a decade. Kargbo, who tragically died on May 20, 2015, in a car accident along with Frank Barham, was a young woman who has impacted so many lives due to her commitment and passion through serving others.

Considered by many in the community as a beloved young professional, Kargbo lived and worked in Atlanta. She was a media specialist in both the public and private sector for over a decade. Inevitably due to her incomparable public relations and organizational management skills, Kargbo became a staple in the Atlanta arts and culture community. Her success in helping non-profit and small arts organizations excel in their businesses, led her to form her own business entitled: iWonder Media Group – a boutique creative arts agency that offered a variety of services in strategic marketing, brand awareness, and event planning to name a few. Her clients include: Sustainable Rural Regenerative Enterprises for Families (SURREF), Ryan Partnership, GTM Central, National Black Arts Festival, Porter Novelli, League of Women Voters of DeKalb County, Atlanta Art Now, Peaceworks Center for Well-Being, re:Imagine ATL, and Gene Kansas Developments. Kargbo also volunteered her time as a board member to various organizations including: Idea Capital, WRFG 89.3 FM Atlanta, C4 Atlanta, Groundswell Fund Integrated Voter Engagement program, and founding member of The Ladies Board, a women of color philanthropic collective.

Her selfless commitment to her clients and organizations is something that will be remembered, as expressed by Jessyca Holland, Executive Director of C4 Atlanta, as she states, “Margaret dedicated her life in support of the arts and social justice. Her spirit and energy as an advocate and community builder touched the lives of so many people.” Kargbo’s recent project was working with musician Frank Barham and Carrie Beth Johnson, for “Wheel 2 Live”, a project to help raise awareness and funds for providing wheelchairs to persons with disabilities in underserved communities, in correlation with the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Despite her untimely death for working on this project, “Wheel 2 Live” surpassed its fundraising goal and the organization will be able to fulfill its mission.

Saturday’s ceremony will be located at the Aviation Community Cultural Center (ACCC), 3900 Aviation Circle NW, Atlanta, GA 30336. The formal program will be from 11am – 12pm and will be streamed live for those who are unable to attend. Featured performances during the program will include vocalist, Julie Dexter, LotusLove, Mausiki Scales and The Common Ground Collective, and music by DJ Kemit and DJ Jamad will take place from 12pm – 2pm. Donations will be accepted onsite and online via GoFundme.com. To learn more about Margaret Kargbo, please visit the dedicated Facebook page: CelebrateMargaretForever.
