Caribbean Catwalk
The second Annual Caribbean Catwalk, Fashion Show was one of the spectacular culminating events of another exciting Caribbean Heritage Month.  Under the auspices of Consul General of Barbados, the Honorable Lennox Price, top Caribbean fashion designers and models came together
under one roof on Friday, June 28th at the legendary Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City.

“Caribbean Soca Queen,” Alison Hinds was the exclusive entertainment for the event.  The event was co-hosted by Trinidadian Caprice Connors and Spindarella of the iconic rap group ‘Salt n Pepa’.  Bajan comedian, Sinck performed a hilarious stand up routine!  He talked about his Bajan upbringing.  Here is a sample of his work from another performance:

The Red Carpet Shelley media team was happy to sit front row with an exclusive invitation from the event organizer Henry Marsham III CEO of Virgin Island Fashion Week (Marsham hails from St. Kitts/Nevis).  Mr. Marsham is a seasoned event planner and pioneer on the Caribbean fashion scene.  Designers presented costumes celebrating our rich cultural heritage which was practically a prelude to NYC Carnival 2013.  The Caribbean designers included House of De Marsh, Hattitude by Karl Brown, Riddim Driven (off spring of VP records), Todd Anthony and Henry Marsham the CEO  of the VI Caribbean Catwalk presented Carnival costumes, Chilla for Fun presented crochet wear and their motto “No pollution is our sollution”, Swim wear by Ejor to name a few.  I sat front and center was awestruck by the architectural construction of the pieces, intricate details and cultural relevance of the entire show.

Alison Hinds did not disappoint with her infamous moves, gyrations and of course her voice never sounded better.  Spectators were a little sore she didn’t sing longer but it left a certain level of anticipation to see more of what Caribbean entertainment has to offer.

Congratulations to Henry Marsham III and his team for a job well done!  Check out the pics!
