After fans of both soca star Bunji Garlin (Ian Alvarez) and South Korean rapper G-Dragon (Kwon Ji Yong) crashed MTV Iggy’s website twice, the Song of the Year poll was declared a tie.

Bunji’s “Differentology” went up against G-Dragon’s “Crooked” and fans were asked to vote on United States-based music website, MTV Iggy’s poll to choose the winner. After declaring it a tie, MTV Iggy said they felt Bunji and G-Dragon should do a song together in 2014.

However, fans of G-Dragon were not pleased with the tie and many expressed their outrage on social media networks.

For days leading up to the close of the poll, fans used social media and encouraged their friends and family to vote for the Soca star. It became obvious fans of G-Dragon were doing the same as the two artistes were neck and neck in the number of votes they received.

Last Friday, fans kept up the voting until persons realised the votes were not registering. At the close of the poll, MTV Iggy apologised on their Twitter account and said the competition was so intense their servers were over capacity.

Later on, MTV Iggy posted on their website that they would extend the poll till Saturday at 11 am. They added that if the poll crashed again or if there were any technical difficulties, it will be declared a draw.

As the poll neared closing, Bunji, who won International Song of the Year at the 2013 Soul Train Awards earlier this month, on his official Facebook fan page thanked everyone in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean and other parts of the world who voted for him but the competition had taken a turn for the worst noting racial slurs were being passed around between his and G- Dragon’s fans.

“We people of the Caribbean are the embodiment of variants and colours and as such let the world learn from that. I do not stand for racism and will make damn sure it doesn’t represent me. Not all people are good but not all are bad either. You cannot be a fan or supporter of me and want to be a part of hurting humanity be it verbal, physical or mental. Let the record show on this day 21 of December 2013, I absolutely oppose the promotion of racism in any design especially from my corner. If someone else sees it fit for them to do it doesn’t mean the recipe is doing it back to them. What is done is done it is time we move on and grow and share goodness in this world to whom and where we can,” he said.

On Twitter, G-Dragon fans criticised MTV Iggy and said Bunji’s fans lied about not being able to vote and pressured the website to declare a draw. Yesterday, MTV Iggy’s Twitter was flooded with messages from G-Dragon fans with some threatening to boycott the website. Meanwhile, Bunji’s fans maintained the peace and continued to congratulate the soca star for another achievement.
