Over the weekend, Beyoncé dropped her highly anticipated new album Lemonade along with a controversial “visual album” of the same name which debuted on HBO over the weekend.

Continuing to ride the reggae dancehall bandwagon, Beyonce’s Lemonade includes a reggae-influenced song “Hold Up”.  The song has a definite reggae vibe and joins the ranks of other pop artists sampling reggae dancehall riddims including Rihann’s monster hit “Work” and Justin Beiber’s “Sorry”.

Pop and EDM hitmaker, Diplo of Major Lazer fame (nee Thomas Wesley Pentz) is the producer of Hold Up and is known for his pop reggae fusion pop songs.

Beyoncé is no stranger to dancehall reggae.  Run The World (Girls), sampled Vybz Kartel’s Major Lazer-produced Pon De Floor.  Beyoncé also worked with Mr Vegas for the remix of the song Standing On The Sun for her self-titled album.

The 13-track Lemonade has collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, The Weekend and Jack White. It is released by Parkwood Entertainment, a company owned by Beyoncé.

Although Lemonade, Beyonce’s sixth solo album, released Saturday via hubby’s online streaming service Tidal is available on iTunes it is streaming exclusively on Tidal.

RCS Sidebar:  You guys know I’m not into the gossip thing, but on this album it appears Beyonce is putting her personal tribulations with hubby Jay-Z on full blast.  Alas, however at the end of it all Queen B appears to be conciliatory and has decidedly made “Lemonade” with her lemons…for now.
