This weekend marked the return of the Beres Hammond and Wayne Wonder tour. For those of you unfamiliar with the “return”, the first date was cancelled due to unforeseen issues at the venue. However, as promised, the Wayne Wonder, Harmony House Band and Beres Hammond returned on August 28th — Beres Hammond’s birthday!

No one was more filled with excitement over celebrating Beres’ birthday than yours truly!!!! The show began with Harmony House warming up the band (this followed Mix Master David and other deejays doing an excellent job of warming up the crowd with reggae favorites!). Harmony House was quickly followed by Grammy-nominated songster Wayne Wonder.

Wayne Wonder sang all his crowd pleasers including songs from his Grammy-nominated album. Althought he an engaging performance, I still wanted to see just a bit more energy from him but I know he’s been working very hard lately!!! (I got the opportunity to meet Wayne and he was very kind. Its good to know there are successful, veteran performing artists who are still so approachable.)

Then, the man of the hour, took the stage — BERES HAMMOND! All of my close friends (even my Yankee friends) all know that Beres is my absolute favorite artist PERIOD. No one was more excited to see this performance right here in my own backyard! Although, I saw him perform last month in Jamaica at Reggae Sumfest, the Atlanta venue, The Tabernacle, offered a much more intimate setting. I felt almost as if Beres was singing to me personally. Well, he did blow me a kiss at one point so maybe he was singing to me!!!

I have seen Beres perform countless times and I have to say this was a STELLAR performance — the best I’ve ever seen from him He kept repeating “its my birthday and I can do whatever I want” and he did!!! Beres did some high jumps, karate kicks and a few Buju Banton running man moves!!! Beres’ voice is as melodic as it is smooth. Furthermore, the only thing better than his performance was his benevolence. Beres not only apologized for the prior cancelled show (which was not his fault in any shape or form) but he also stood around in the parking lot following the show taking loads of pictures with all of his adoring fans including me!!! He took pictures with everyone who asked and was kind and endearing to each and every one to the very end — class act!

Beres even hugged a few of his fans including me — TWICE!!! Okay, can you tell that I had the time of my life? Yes, I finally met Beres and I cannot wait to tell this one to the grandkids!!!
