I always knew that Former President Barack Obama had great taste!  The Obamas could have chosen anywhere in the world for their first post-Presidency vacay and they chose to vacation in the Caribbean, the British Virgin Islands to be exact (next time Barack we need you in the U.S. Virgin Islands!)

According to the Virgin Islands Daily News, Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, arrived in the British Virgin Islands at 8:47 p.m. Monday at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, before being whisked away to Richard Branson’s private celebrity hot spot, Necker Island, for a vacation.

After landing on Branson’s private jet, the Obamas posed for a photo with local immigration personnel who checked them into the territory and Police Commissioner Michael Matthews.

As news spread of the Obama’s pending arrival, several people showed up to the airport and armed police blocked the area east of the airport off to traffic so that the Obamas could be swiftly transported to Trellis Bay where a boat was waiting to take them to Necker Island.

It’s not known how long the Obamas will be in the territory.

Necker Island, a 74-acre island which holds about 30 guests, is north of Virgin Gorda and is about a 15- to 20-minute sail from Beef Island. Branson bought the island in 1983 for $180,000. Rates are currently going around $42,000 per night. A villa can be had for $27,000 for a week.

Then-Senator Obama visited the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2007 holding a fundraiser at The Ritz-Carlton on St. Thomas and meeting students at the then-V.I. Montessori School.
