Atlanta Summer Festival went down a couple of weeks ago. Atlanta‘s Caribbean community anxiously awaited the event given the epic failure of last years Atlanta Carifest. The event billed as a “world class event” fell short of this goal however, we did get some of the headliner acts and some fun local talent.

I arrived at the venue around 4 oclock and there were only a handful of concert goers at the time. However, as the day progressed the crowd grew larger as it grew impatient. The show began late evening around 7pm at which point most of us felt this might be a repeat of last year. The show got underway with many of the local acts. Theres a load of young talent in Atlanta and the promoters gave these youngins an opportunity to showcase their gifts. Shout out to Jabari Productions and Stichie! Most memorable and impressive young act at the Atlanta Summer Festival had to be Meak! His father, Errol Moore, a well respected reggae musician has often lamented about the time and effort put into developing his sons talent. Errol its paying off!

The headline acts began about 10:15PM with Spragga Benz, followed by Laden, Chino, Stephen DiGenius McGregor and Big Ship Captain, Freddy McGregor, closed out the show. Many acts scheduled to appear did not perform. However at least we got a show and, for that, Im thankful. Atlanta needs a viable, annual reggae music festival. I hope this is the beginning of bigger and better tings to come!
