The Atlanta Caribbean Carnival Bandleaders Association hosted a press reception and launch this past weekend at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel. The event marked the official launch of the Atlanta Carnival 2011 season. Junia Blackburn, Public Relations Officer, stated The 2011 Atlanta Carnival theme of “Mas and Music” was selected because “it serves as a representation of what Carnival is all about”.
A short video message from Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed was also presented. It was very entertaining to listen to Mayor Reed practicing his Caribbean inflection when he repeated the Carnival theme as “Mos and Music”. Its ok, he’s working on his Caribbean accent y’all!!!
After the perfunctory comments and a light serving of hors d’oeuvres (cuz you know a sista gotta eat!), the “Parade of Bands” begun. The presentation was a spectacular preview of what to expect on Memorial Day Weekend when it really all goes down.
