June 2017 represents the 12th Anniversary of Caribbean American Heritage Month. The Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition (GCAHC) is in still finalizing plans for several activities that will take place during the month of June 2017 under the distinguished patronage of the Atlanta Caribbean Consular Corps.

GCAHC was formed in 2006 and is a representative organization of the Caribbean community in the State of Georgia. During the past twelve years, the organization has promoted business forums, health fairs, mentorship programs and several cultural and educational programs. We have also partnered with the Fulton and Dekalb County Public Libraries to sponsor several educational forums and Caribbean film festivals.

This year, we will kick-off our month-long activities with an Opening Ceremony on Sunday, June 4th at Atlanta City Hall Atrium. The event typically attracts about 500 persons and will feature approximately 35 countries representing the English, French, Spanish and Dutch speaking Caribbean through our national dress displays, a taste of Caribbean cuisine and cultural entertainment.  This event will feature exhibit tables for promotional display and there will also be a flag salute with the youth carrying a flag from each Caribbean nation and the USA. This year we will be showcasing the US Virgin Islands as they commemorate the 100th anniversary of Transfer day. This date recognizes when the United States of America purchased the Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John) from Denmark in 1917. And, the month-long activities will feature a Caribbean spelling bee which will be held on June 10th.
