Water and electricity have been restored to some areas in Dominica while other areas are still without, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced.

He made that announcement while presenting an update to the nation on Sunday night.

A number of communities on the island were left without electricity and water in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika.

However Skerrit said he has been advised that the water supply has been restored in Pointe Michel, Loubiere, Wallhouse, Morne Prosper, Laudat, Grandbay, Toucarie, Cottage, Capuchin, Savanne Paille, Tan Tan, Penville , Vielle Case, Kalinago Territory and Castle Bruce.

He said DOWASCO has also advised that the water system in Giraudel, Bagatelle, Fond St Jean, Petite Savanne, Tete Morne and Coulibistrie are “totally devastated”.

DOWASCO expects to restore the water supply to Portsmouth today.

“Wesley, Woodford Hill, parts of Marigot work is in progress,” Skerrit said.

DOWASCO will begin work in Soufriere, Scottshead, Wotten Waven, Trafalgar, Shawford, Bense, Borne, Dos’D’Ane, Thibaud, Calisbishie and Clifton.

“They are advising that there is no information available on the status of the water systems in the east because of lack of communication or inaccessibility,” Skerrit revealed. “And now that we have cleared those roads we expect them to go in there today to do an assessment of the water systems and see what is required to get them operational.”

He said DOMLEC has informed him that a number of areas are still without electricity. These areas include some parts of Canefield Industrial Estate, Grandbay to Petite Savanne, Rosalie to Delices, Petite Soufriere, Penrice, Campbell, Douglas-Charles Airport, upper Trafalgar, Wotten Waven, parts of Bellevue Chopin and Pichlen are without electricity.

“The rest of Dominica has electricity,” he said.
