UPDATE Sept. 22, 2016:

On behalf of the Caribbean Media Network and the Caribbean American Cultural Arts Foundation, we regret to inform you about a date change for the 2016 Caribbean American Movers & Shakers Awards. Due to production and technical issues, we are unable to move forward on Sunday September 25, 2016.

Our commitment to excellence and quality in this ground breaking production, warrants us to move the date to accommodate the required production needs.

Please accept our humble apologies as we regroup and provide further information on our new event date.

The Caribbean American Movers and Shakers Awards officially announced the 2016 list of distinguished honorees.  The Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the historical Atlanta Symphony, 1280 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 from 5pm-10pm.  This year’s event also includes a University Outreach Program, where honorees mentor young college students.

This year’s honorees are Trumpet Awards Founder, Xernona Clayton; Civil Rights Legend, Congressman John Lewis; Deputy Chairman and CEO of Sandals Resorts International, Adam Stewart; Founder of Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Roy Hastick;  CEO Golden Krust Bakery and Grill, Lowell Hawthorne; Georgia House of Representative, Pedro Pete Marin; Sports Illustrated Cover Girl, Hannah Jeter; Actor , Shameik Moore; Miss Universe 1977, Janelle Penny Commissiong; Caribbean Tourism Organization Director, Sylma Bramble Brown, and Caribbean American  restaurant, Tassa Roti Shop.

Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award is Calypso/Soca legend, Mighty Sparrow.  Special tributes will include basketball legend, Tim Duncan, and the Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz.  The event will also feature a special presentation to the 2016 Rio Olympic Athletes from the Caribbean and Diaspora.

This year’s event will bring awareness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic with our civic partnership with AID Atlanta, which has been providing HIV/AIDS-related services, since 1982.
